Phil Tarrant
Phil Tarrant studied the bass trombone at the
Royal College of Music.
His first teacher was Alywn Green, then at the Bournemouth Symphony
Orchestra, followed by Gerry McElhone (Royal Opera House) and Harry
Spain (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra). As a freelance bass trombonist
he has worked with Cliff Richard, Roy Castle and Dana amongst many
others, and has played at many European Music Festivals including
Salzburg with orchestras and brass ensembles.
As a qualified Brass Instrumental Teacher he has worked in East Sussex, Hertfordshire and Guernsey. His current portfolio includes teaching employment with Berkshire Young Musicians Trust, Oxfordshire County Music Service and several independent schools, as well as being principal conductor and director of several youth wind bands both in the Thames Valley area and in Guernsey. He also finds time for orchestral and brass ensemble playing, as well as arranging music for various brass combinations.
