Carol Jarvis

Carol Jarvis Carol Jarvis, originally from Newport Pagnell, moved to Manchester in 1996 and graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2001 with a BMus (Hons) 1st class degree and distinction in the solo Professional Performance diploma. She gained many awards including the brass prize, a jazz improvisation award and two major scholarships from the RNCM and also won the British Trombone Society/Jiggs Whigham scholarship to study in America.

She has been busy freelancing in all fields of the trombone profession with the likes of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera North, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Northern Ballet Theatre, D'Oyly Carte and Ulster Brass. Carol has also had trials with the Hallé Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

Carol has performed alongside the likes of Jamiroquai, Lulu, Victoria Beckham, Urban Cookie Collective, has toured the USA with Roy Wood and regularly works and tours with the Andy Prior Orchestra and National Youth Jazz Orchestra. She features on a number of commercial albums including Badly Drawn Boy's The Hour of Bewilderbeast winning the Technics Mercury Music Award, a Q Award and Album of the Year. Carol was on the panel judging the International Trombone competitions whilst at the International Trombone Festival with Bones Apart in Denton, Texas, 2002 and also judged the Quartet Competitions for the ITF in Helsinki in 2003. She has her trombone arrangements published by Warwick Music and is on the Board of Advisors of the British Trombone Society.
